Surplus area: SC issues notice; stays HC orders

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to a PIL petitioner Kamlakar Shenoy and in the meantime stayed a judgment pronounced last week by Bombay high court that directed Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police to register a first information report (FIR) on allegations that Mhada officers’ failure to recover surplus area form defaulting builders led to loss of Rs 40,000 crore since the 1990s.
