In a dramatic turn of events, Sandip Naik, sitting Airoli MLA who was nominated by the BJP to contest the Airoli assembly seat, withdrew in favour of his father and former minister Ganesh Naik on Wednesday. Corporators and activists owing allegiance to the Naik family wanted Ganesh Naik to contest the seat after he was denied a contest in Belapur, with the BJP choosing to nominate sitting MLA Manda Mhatre.
