9 deaths on Mumbai roads, rlys since lockdown
A silver lining to the COVID outbreak has been a steep fall in fatalities on roads and railways. Eight fatalities-- six of them pedestrians-- were reported on city streets till April 15. On the railway network, the act of doing nothing has saved an average of seven lives per day. A lone commuter died of natural causes at Thane railway station while trains were inoperational. With over 3000 annual fatalities on roads and railways collectively in 2019, gigantic efforts need to be taken to "flatten the curve" and make the city more commutable in the post COVID-19 era, say experts.
